1 Killed, 2 Hospitalized After Fatal Truck Accident on I-79


October 7, 2010 - Monongalia County, W.Va.
- One woman died and two victims were hospitalized after a truck crash near the Monongalia-Marion County line Wednesday morning.

reports that the crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 79. A passenger vehicle was travelling northbound on I-79 when it crashed into the rear of a tanker truck close to mile marker 142. Further details concerning how the truck crash occurred are not available at this time.

Three victims who had been in the passenger vehicle were rushed to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment of their accident injuries. One female passenger succumbed to fatal injuries and was pronounced dead after the crash. The female driver spent hours in surgery on Wednesday. Her condition is not known at this time.

The identities of those involved in the truck crash have not yet been released.

State Police Troopers said that the accident caused considerable road blockages. Traffic was backed up for some time near the 142 mile marker.

Investigations into the fatal truck accident continue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
