1 Injured in Downtown Charleston Car Accident

July 30, 2010 - Charleston, W. Va. - One person was injured in a car accident in Charleston late Wednesday afternoon.

WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Brooks Street and Washington Street when a driver allegedly ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

Witnesses have stated that the driver of the vehicle that ran the red light was taken to the hospital. At this time, the medical condition and identity of this person are unknown.

The intersection was closed for a short period of time following the accident. There is no word yet as to whether any charges were filed in connection with the Charleston accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
