1 Injured in Charleston Accident on I-64

March 11, 2011 - South Charleston, W.Va. - One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident in South Charleston Thursday morning.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at about 10 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 64 at the 56-mile marker, in Charleston. According to Metro 911 dispatchers, the vehicle was traveling westbound when it was involved in an accident. Further details concerning the nature of the accident are not available at this time.

One person was injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital. The injured person's medical condition is unknown at this time.

The identity of the person has not yet been released.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. Dispatchers said no further injuries were reported.

A second accident was also reported in the area at about the same time Thursday morning. The crash, at the intersection of F Street and MacCorkle Avenue, involved two cars. No one was injured in this accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
