1 Dead and 1 Injured in Lewis County Accident on Skin Creek Road

August 30, 2010 - Lewis County, W. Va. - A rollover accident in Lewis County has taken the life of one man and left another injured.

WDTV reports that the crash occurred on Skin Creek Road. According to State Police, Rodney Marteny, 32, of Lost Creek, was travelling westbound on the road when his Ford Expedition suddenly went out of control and flipped over.

There were two people in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both Marteny and his father, Randy Marteny, 54, were thrown from the vehicle in the crash. Randy Marteny died on impact.

Rodney Marteny received serious accident injuries in the crash and was transported by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His medical condition is said to be fair.

The rollover accident remains under investigation by State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
