1 Dead and 1 Injured in Head-On Crash on W. Va. 152 in Lavalette

July 28, 2010 - Lavalette, W. Va. - One woman lost her life in a head-on car accident on W.Va. 152 in Wayne County.

WSAZ reports that the collision occurred Monday night near the Camp Creek Plaza, north of Lavalette. Susan E. Smith, 48, was transported to Huntington Hospital immediately following the accident. She later died in the hospital.

At this time, investigators believe that Smith was travelling southbound on the highway when she crossed the center line. Her vehicle then collided head on with an oncoming pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was also seriously injured. Further information concerning the condition of the other driver is unknown.

Police have stated that this is the second fatal car accident this month to occur at this same spot on W. Va. 152.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
