1 Dead After Fatal I-64 Accident in Greenbrier County Involving Tractor Trailer

February 8, 2011 - White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. - One person died Monday afternoon when a tractor trailer and a car collided in Greenbrier County.

WBOY reports that the fatal truck accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Interstate 64 near White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County. According to dispatchers, a tractor trailer and a car crashed in the westbound lanes of I-64 close to mile marker 181.

One person was killed in the accident. The person was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, nor did police clarify whether the deceased victim was in the truck or the passenger vehicle.

No other people were injured in the accident. The identities of anyone else involved in the accident are also unknown at this time.

Interstate 64 was blocked to traffic for some time following the accident. There is no word on the cause of the crash. The fatal I-64 accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
